1.1. Introduction

The aim of this course is to go deeply into the relationship between Urban Project and Landscape, developing the basic concepts and working methods of Landscape Urbanism. The course develops around thematic blocks, that correspond with different intervention scales, strategies and topics: Understanding Places, Ecological Landscape Planning, Green Infrastructures, New Urban Landscapes, Waterfronts, Landscape Projects. The practical lessons and exercises will offer students and teachers the possibility to collaborate with the local authorities in seminars, workshops, exhibitions, summer courses and publications.

Context and meaning of the subject in the Degree:
Complement learning theories and techniques of designing and urban planning in relation to treatment of contemporary urban landscapes.

2.1. Learning goals

Demonstrate the ability to understand the processes of construction and transformation of urban landscapes and metropolises.

Demonstrate the ability to understand the nature of the projects of intervention in the landscape, using scales and elements of these projects.

Understand, analyze and comment specialized texts and content development properly structured and argued.

Provide argumentation with specific bibliography.

2.2. Importance of learning goals

In this course students develop skills to address issues related to the intervention on the landscape of urban nature.

3.1. Aims of the course

The course and its expected results reflect the following approaches and objectives: 
Provide a cross and inclusive approach on the processes of landscape architecture and projects about the city landscape criteria.

3.2. Competences

C.E. 81.OP Have an adequate knowledge of urban design, landscape and urban projects.

C.E. 97.OP Have the ability to conceive the relationship between architectural design and landscape culture.

C.E. 98.OP Have knowledge on landscapes.

4.1. Assessment tasks (description of tasks, marking system and assessment criteria)

The overall evaluation of the student will be done through continuous monitoring the exercises that they develop throughout the course and will be based on practical workshop (60%) and activities analysis and commentary of specialized texts (40%).

Assessment of non-present students. Given the possibility that a student is unable to attend various sessions for justified reasons, arbitrates, exceptionally, the following screening tests:

- Written exam blocks corresponding to theory.

- Practical exercise corresponding to the content of the workshop.

- The value of each of these tests will be equal to those of these sections in the whole

5.1. Methodological overview

The learning process that has been designed for this subject is based on the following. The school schedule is divided into two blocks:

-          Theoretical block: weekly program of theoretical sessions are complemented with material available in Moodle: cartography, bibliography, specific dossiers, etc.

-          Practical block/ Workshop: developing landscape documents in the format of plans, projects, guidelines, guides, etc.

5.2. Learning tasks

The learning process is mainly based on the student's own work, supervised and advised by the teacher. Weekly monitoring of the students work is performed, with the possibility of additional tutorials

Theory and methodology: some theoritical lesson wil be given focused at the begining of the course. Some useful examples for the students work will be shown and discussed during the lessons.
